How To: Share Calendars with Other Applications
Using “Share Out”
Share Out allows you to display your Homeschool Planet calendar within another calendar application (such as Google Calendar or Apple Calendar). You can share different versions of your calendar, each containing a different selection of events from your Homeschool Planet calendar.
To display events from Homeschool Planet in another calendar application, follow these steps:
- Under the “Settings” menu, choose “Share”.
- Select the “Share Out” tab, if it is not already selected.
- Click on the “Share my Homeschool Planet calendar with others” link.
- Give this calendar a name (for your reference).
- Highlight the address displayed in the white box, and copy it using your browser’s “copy” function.
- Click “Save”.
Important: You must save before continuing to step 7, or the address will not be activated.
- Paste that address into the appropriate place in your other calendar application (see the Homeschool Planet help article “How To: Share my Homeschool Planet Calendar” specific to your application).
Using “Share In”
Share In allows you to display a calendar from another Internet calendar application (such as Google calendar or Apple iCloud Calendar) on your Homeschool Planet calendar. You can add many such calendars, and for each you can choose which students will see that calendar when the student logs in.
To display events from another calendar inside Homeschool Planet, follow these steps:
- Under the “Settings” menu, choose “Share”.
- Select the “Share In” tab, if it is not already selected.
- Click on the “Display scheduled events from another calendar in Homeschool Planet” link.
- Copy the address for the iCal-formatted version of your calendar from your other calendar application (see the Homeschool Planet help article “How To: Finding the Share In Address” specific to your application):
- Paste the address you copied in step 4 into the “URL for this Internet calendar” field.
- Give the calendar a name (anything you like, for your reference only).
- Choose a color for this calendar. Events from this Internet calendar will all display in your calendar in this color.
- Choose which students will see this calendar when they log in.
- Choose “Save”.
How To: Display the Weekends
You can control whether or not Saturday and Sunday are displayed on the Calendar or Planner by clicking either of the “S” buttons near the top of the display. The weekends will also print if they are visible when you choose Print from the menu.
You can also control whether the weekends are positioned at the left or right side of the calendar, or even split with Sunday on the left and Saturday on the right. Use the “Settings” menu, and choose “General”. In the Account Settings dialog that appears, change the “Week starts on:” setting:
- Monday – weekends will be on the right
- Saturday – weekends will be on the left
- Sunday – weekends will be split
Choose “Save” at the bottom of the dialog to save your choice.
How To: Track Attendance
To enable attendance tracking for a student, first open that student’s profile (see How To: Edit a Student’s Profile).
